Did you have a choice between two colleges? Any specific reasons for choosing this college?

I had a choice between 4 to 5 colleges for the branches - Computer Science and Information Science. I collected information on these colleges and spoke to couple of my friends. I got a positive feedback from many of them on Acharya Institute of Technology. Besides I also learnt that this was one of the best colleges, not only in terms of academics but also in terms of engineering experience fun.

How is the faculty for your branch?

I can assure that about 80% of the faculty is really good. The lecturers in Computer Science and Information Science are amazing. For Mechanical and Biotech branches the teachers are okay. From what I have heard, currently, the lecturers in Electronics and Communications branch are not up to the mark in terms of their experience.

On the whole the lecturers are good. They don’t just stick to classroom style of teaching. They make it a point to know each student by their names. They offer personal mentoring and never refuse any request. Teachers are easily accessible. No one is too rigid or too uptight.

How are your classmates?

The crowd is good. There are people from different parts of the country. We also have people coming from Tanzania, Middle East. They are very outspoken. The crowd is basically very decent. People have different talents.

Any special reasons for choosing this branch?

I always liked Computer Science as a branch. I feel I am good at computers and my passion lies in this field.

How is the infrastructure (ex. lab, hostel, library)?

In one word – Rocks!!! Everything is newly built/purchased. Lab facilities are more than adequate. The labs are well equipped, well maintained and there is Internet connectivity in every lab. The campus also has Wi-Fi facility. There are hardly any glitches, bugs in the software/hardware in the lab.

The classrooms are spacious, well planned and conducive. There is an overhead projector in each class. Currently the library is under construction. By the start of 3rd semester we will have a fully functional library. Currently we have good collection of books.

There are hostels for both guys and girls. There are different types – Shakthi, Cottages, Independent houses and NRI hostels.

Shakthi Cottages are like the ordinary flats kind. Cottages are basically like colonies. In independent houses, four people can reside. The NRI hostel has everything from TV to Internet to refrigerator.

Currently there is a lack of an approach road to the college. But the tarring of the road has already begun.

College fees is around 16k + 4k for books + van fees is about 5k. The transport fee is the best offer you can get in Bangalore because other colleges are charging an exorbitant amount of 12-15k.

Is your college autonomous/deemed?

My college is affiliated to VTU, Belgaum. The exams and other procedures are as per the VTU standards.

How are the placements?

Placements are good. About 30 –35 companies have visited the campus last year. We have a healthy mix of companies from IT to Pharmaceutical to Automobile. Companies like Infosys, Microsoft, iflex, Torry Harris solutions have visited the campus. Biocon and many other companies are expected to come this year.

Any other comments/thoughts.

Our college is about 8 years old. We have a Cultural fest named “Acharya habba” organized on a large scale every year. It’s a very happening fest. Our college also offers Job fairs where in people from other colleges can also participate. Our college figures in the top 40 colleges in the State. I personally feel that the college needs to make itself more popular i.e. build the brand name.

During the 5th and 6th semester, placement training is given to students.

From what I am seeing of my friends, I have a few tips/thoughts for juniors.

Take up E&C only if you like it and you are sure you can cope with it. Mechanical will be good for people with a creative bent of mind and who have an affinity towards physics. Personally I wish to say that do not take up a branch cause your friends are taking it up. Take it up cause you want it. Choose a branch based on your liking, strengths and weakness. Also do not go just by college names and compromise on the branch. You do not want to spend 4 years of your life doing something which you do not like. In the end what matters is how you perform.
