Have you ever wondered how to get all the Dilbert book collection? Or how to get online version of The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe (1808) by Daniel Defoe (One of the classics)? Or say, Douglas Adams classics?(Read ahead...)
Education is about learning to discern truth and falsehood in what you read. Has your Sister/ Brother/ Nephew/ Neice or have you complained yourself, that you are not studying/ reading because you dont have enough books? If so, it wont be an excuse anymore. Here I present, a couple of website links that will keep you occupied for more than a year. Although, this isn't your excuse to complain that you dont have a laptop.
For this week, we are not reviewing just 1 website but loads of them under the theme, "Free Books". Read ahead ONLY if you agree with the disclaimer.
1. Open Education and Open Courseware, Here.
Description: MIT (No.1 University for Engineering, MS and so on), Carnagie Mellon University (Best University for Computer Science) and many more offer Open COurseWare. They provide their study materials for free downloads. Go ahead and check out any material on any subjects of your choice. Let information and Knowledge Prevail.
2. Project Gutenberg, Here.
Description: They are the FIRST producer of free electronic books (e-books) providing all the legal copies of ebooks, audio books and CDs,DVDs of academic material. You will find a lot of classic novels and books. Adventures of Robinson Crusoe is also available in this website.
3. Wiki Books, Here.
Description: If any of you want to study Algebra, Calculus, History again, you can visit WikiBooks and access any material of your choice. Although, they dont provide a special download link for you, you can copy the article that you are interested in accessing offline. Needless to say that WikiBooks is inspired by Wikipedia, which again believes in Open and Free Education.
4. Dilbert (1989-2008) and Garfield (1978-2008) Collection. Here.
Description: We do not know if this is a legal or an illegal copy. We request you to verify before you download from this website and you are completely responsible for your actions. Having said that, they have a nice collection organized year wise for you to download.
5. Dwalin for Novel et al, Here.
Description: This website has a collection of novels, Russian novels and other books. I have provided you the backdoor entry link. It's again your responsibility. You can find a few of Douglas Adams books.
6. Online Books portal by University of Pennsylvania, Here.
Description: Find that special book, you are looking for here. Search by title, author, date etc. Read their Copyright, License before you decide to do anything. They have a very big archive, book and news collection.
7. Some Computer Books please. Get it right here.
UNIX, Windows, Mac OS, Ajax, Java, .net, Ruby, C#, Copyright. Materials on all these buzz words. The last one is for you.
8. ANZ (Australian and New Zealand Digital Books portal, here.
No, we arent referring to the ANZ bank but to the website which has host of Digital Library links. Find your book.
9. A for Apple. B for Ball. C for Children Books, right here.
Description: Find what your child wants. Access it.
10. Haven't found your book yet. Some more links here.
Description: Find books for your iPod, PDA, Technical books and everything in this link list.
